Recruiter
“I learned something new every day . . . it was fun and exciting . . . I experienced different cultures and work ethics.” Noriko Nikki Ogawa obviously enjoyed the days she spent working in multicultural organizations. Nikki is WIN Advisory Group’s newest recruiter and she is enthusiastic about working with candidates who are looking for the same sort of satisfaction in new careers.
Nikki began her career as an English-Japanese interpreter. In helping others overcome language barriers to successful business transactions, she learned that speaking and translating two languages is not enough for effective communications. To overcome the difficulty, she learned to become a “bridge” connecting the very different cultures of two countries in order to help both parties reach mutual understanding.
In addition, Nikki has worked as an interpreter during training seminars developed to help Americans learn about Japanese business culture and how to work effectively within that culture. That experience has provided Nikki a solid understanding of how Japanese and Americans work together; an understanding helpful in working with candidates for jobs with Japanese companies.
Other steps in Nikki's career include working as a purchasing agent for a Japanese automaker where she learned that communications is a vital aspect of successful business. And, as Assistant to the CEO of a Japanese owned business in the US, she participated in candidate interviews, where she learned plenty about making the most of an interview.
Asked what advice she’d offer potential candidates, Nikki states the importance of a good resume--that candidates must know what is on their resume and be able to explain the details during the interview. She says that uncomplicated, easy to understand resumes are best. Keywords and work experience related in short phrases or sentences help create effective resumes.
Nikki also suggests teaming up with a good recruiter during your job search. Good recruiters, she says, will work hard for you--as hard as if they were trying to land the job for themselves.
One of Nikki’s career goals is to help people. Her background includes helping others become more effective by facilitating understanding between people of different cultures. Now, as a recruiter, she’d like to help you find a job with a Japanese company.
